The Auteurs – Garage

This is something that’s been brewing in the background for a long time now.

A condensed history :

The Criterion Collection started a website called the Auteurs which has the main purpose of bringing some of Criterion’s brilliant film catalog online; a way to view good quality streams of some very important works of world cinema. A noble pursuit if ever there were one. A forum was also an integral part of this web experience; a place where cinephiles and novices alike could go to discuss and pontificate on films to their hearts content. The big picture was a social network revolving around the ever amazing world of cinema.

Eventually, new ideas started evolving out of these initial seeds of creation, and so Garage was born.

Garage came from the idea that there should be a place online that acted as equal parts production house, film school and central encampment for the organization of a band of camera-toting rebels who want to start a new independent cinema revolution. There is a small group of people tirelessly working on creating something here which transcends your basic video sharing site and solipsistic wank fest of places such as Youtube and their ilk – there is an underlying ideology at play which is still being refined and sharpened until we finally decide to stab the world with it.

Needless to say, this is a view of the Garage in its infancy, right now it exists as a bastion for our experiments, our random musings and our landing pad for ideas to take shape – a sign of things to come.  There are some grand things coming in the future and if all goes according to plan, we will help to re-invent the independent movement in American cinema with true independence.

So, take a look at The Auteurs’ Garage here:

Come and take part, join up, discuss, film, exhibit, film.

Things are being added and changing all the time and eventually the bigger pictures will start to come into focus.
ALSO: I’m actively searching to recruit some filmmakers into our fold, so if you have some work you’d like me to watch for welcoming consideration into our current and/or future projects, please let me know!
…and finally, here are two of my recent experiments:
